Abstract:

Human interaction with environment is possible through the sensory and mental connection. Human experience environment by his five senses. Hearing is one of the most important human senses which in urban areas connect human to the environmental sounds which is called soundscape. Soundscape play the important role in life quality improvement.

But this role is not considered practically by urban designers in Iran. The use of facilities that will provide soundscape for urban planning requires the identification, review and analysis of the relationship between the dimensions of the urban areas.

Since the soundscape has two dimensions: conceptual and physical - understanding by users of the space is achieved and physical artifact can be measured by measuring instruments, This study aimed to explore the relationship between these dimensions in urban areas. Methods of research in the development of intellectual model of subject recognition, is descriptive-analytical methods and documentary techniques. Analytical and survey study methods are applied for the implementation of theoretical foundation. To review the current situation and analyze the possibilities and potential of field studies in the form of interviews, direct observation and questionnaire design applied and finally, the findings of the theoretical parts is matched with field studies.

The results show that there is a direct bilateral relationship between the perception of soundscape consumers and the characteristics of the physical aspects of the soundscape in urban areas, generally. But at times of year when the heat is more effective superior to others factors, Like summer, this relationship is not established. That this case as a counterexample indicates that in general, you can not only use one of the two main soundscape dimensions (physical and mental) to review and assessment of soundscape in urban spaces. Moreover, to recognition of soundscape in urban spaces, same time and parallel evaluation of both mentioned effective dimensions is required.

This research presents a combined view of sync, positive and negative attitude about soundscape and introduction of multifaceted approach to design the optimal Soundscape; which, has proposed a two-stage method that can be used to plan and design the optimal Soundscape in urban spaces with measuring sound pressure level[1] in quantitative dimension and evaluation factors such as presence motivation, momentary assessment, interesting Sounds, warm weather, lighting and radiation and finally vision and landscape in qualitative dimension.

The results of this study can be used as a factor in raising attention to the role of soundscape in the promotion of peace with design of urban spaces due to the favorable Soundscape, which is one of the variables quality of life in urban spaces in Tehran
