Abstract
One of the main problems which have been
considered during
recent decades in architecture is symbolization and in general, meaning-
making in architecture which depends to how understand the process of the
meaning interpretation in architectural works. Due to this problem, there are some important questions in the theory
field of architecture such as can we assume a final meaning for an
architectural work or not or can we present a certain framework for discussing
among architectural work, its architect and its audience or not? There are different approaches about this questions which can be classified into three general groups: Philosophical approach,
Non-verbal approach and Semiotic approach. Each of these approaches explain
differently about the subjects which are related to the process of the meaning interpretation
in architectural works such as the role of
the creative of the architectural work, audience of the architectural work and
the process of the perception for receiving the work's meaning.
During this research and
duo to Islamic teachings, a new approach will be
theorized which will conclude a new theory about the problem of this research
which is named “Semantic in architectural works based on Islamic view”.
According to this theory, appearance and essence or idea of the artist and his work, consciously
or unconsciously, are inextricably bound. Preliminary purpose of the
explanation of this theory is to achieve a model of
artistic interpretation that is consistent with Islamic teachings to guarantee
the appropriateness of the appearance and conscience
in meaning-making process (from geometric and
spatial aspects) in contemporary Tehran mosques. According to this model, it will be specified that during the
process of interpretation of architectural works, what
components are effective
and basically, audience how
and under which process would deduce the meanings
of architectural works. It is clear that the function of this model in the mosques
which the role of the meaning in them is essential is very
important for symbolization and meaning- making.
To achieve to the
purposes of this research,
various methods such as qualitative content
analysis and thematic analysis are used. Moreover, according to the requirements
of the various stages of this research, for gathering data, archival research method
is used mostly meanwhile the author has used logical-argumentative research in
analysis step and judgment of data.
Based on the results of this
research, to establish the appropriateness of the appearance (body) and
conscience (meaning) in contemporary Tehran mosques,
using from converged, static,
balanced and generally introverted geometries and spaces
is necessary and contrary to what is seen in some contemporary Tehran mosques over recent years, diverging and extroverted geometries and spaces are not suitable for this problem.
