Typology of
Traditional Houses in Historical Part of Gorgan City, and Adopting its
Principals and Strategic Solutions
ABSTRACT
The
existence of problems and issues to eliminate those of historical, cultural and
valuable contexts and constructions, in the right way, has drawn the attention
of researchers in this domain to evaluate and tackle these issues from
different perspectives. Basically, the fundamentals of these comparisons and
judgments within different societies are due to having historical backgrounds,
which are achievable mostly via the correct view to architecture and preferably
via identifying their typology, which in its own right, can be an advantage for
nations.
The
hypotheses of the current thesis are based on identification of historically
and culturally valuable typology and further seek answers to questions such as noble height (dominance) and its relation with culture,
lighting and most important of all avoiding monotony and the state of boredom
caused by the tediousness of modern life. The research takes advantage of a
variety of research methods including qualitative and quantitative ones as well
as a hybrid of the two, evaluating the variables and the relations among them. One
of the major questions of the research targets the central yard and how it can
be justified in certain climates such as that of Gorgan. Another concerns the
nature of moving life between parts of the house in winter and summer in
moderate climates such as Gorgan, which unlike arid areas is not necessary to
move. In order to prove the hypotheses, the research aims at evaluating the
typology with all its aspects in terms of schematic and skeletal design. Evaluating
and examining the hypotheses, skeletal solutions regarding a schema will be
extracted and presented and finally questions will be answered. On the other
hand, in order to improve life quality, some priorities have been suggested
according to the knowledge of these patterns and types. The results of the
study shows that the pattern of Central Yard, is a Meta climate factor
concerning mostly cultural as well as climate reasons and this has made it as
one of the popular skeletal patterns in all types of climates e.g. warm, cold and moderate. The significance of the
current study however, is the evaluation and typology of the specific type from
Gorgan City which achieved the following results:
1. Type
of “Central Yard” can meet the needs of dominance, residential privacy,
lighting, modernism and cultural considerations.
2. Type
of “Central Yard” is “Meta climate”.
3. Type
of “Central Yard” in Gorgan City, avoids monotony and tediousness of life via
movement across the parts of the house.
4. The
rule of “same height” in residential buildings is a way for protection of privacy which is in
accordance with Islamic culture.
