SEMC 2013, the Fifth International Conference on Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation, will be held in Cape Town (South Africa) from 2 to 4 September 2013

  (i) advise on conference topics,

(ii) encourage participation at the conference, (iii) distribute conference leaflets,

  (iv) review submitted papers, and

  (v) chair conference sessions (if attending).
All information on SEMC 2013 will be placed on the conference website by the beginning of March. It would be most appreciated if you could indicate as soon as possible your acceptance or otherwise of the invitation to serve on the International Advisory Board for SEMC 2013, since we intend to include the full list of Advisory Board members with the initial launch of the conference website. Kindly note that acceptance to serve on the Advisory Board does not oblige you to attend the Conference, but I would, of course, be delighted if you can also contribute one or two papers and actually attend the Conference.
Papers should be submitted to:

Chair, SEMC 2013 International Conference
Department of Civil Engineering, University of Cape Town
Rondebosch 7701, Cape Town, SOUTH AFRICA

In the tradition of the previous (and hugely successful) SEMC International Conferences held in Cape Town in 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2010, SEMC 2013will aim at bringing together from around the world academics, researchers and practitioners in the broad fields of structural mechanics, associated computation and structural engineering, to review recent achievements in the advancement of knowledge and understanding in these areas, share the latest developments, and address the challenges that the present and the future pose.
I attach for your information a PDF containing some preliminary details on the conference, including a list of topics on which papers may be prepared. While the list is not exhaustive, the diversity of the topics is an indication of the intended scope of the conference. Please feel free to suggest any additional topics, particularly those of a very recent nature but for which there is already strong interest within
the international community. There will also be the opportunity for organising special sessions, and requirements for these will be announced in due course. Based on your international eputation as a distinguished academic and researcher in one or more of the areas covered by the conference, I am inviting you to join the International Advisory Board for SEMC 2013.
As a Member of the International Advisory Board, you will be required to:
