Abstract
Jatropha curcas leaves extract was tested as a green corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in aqueous hydrochloric acid solution using gravimetric and thermometric techniques. The results reveal that the inhibition efficiency vary with concentration of the leaf extract and the time of immersion. Maximum inhibition efficiency was found to be 95.92% in 2M HCl with 0.5 g/l concentration of the extract in gravimetric method, while 87.04% was obtained in thermometric method. The inhibiting effect was attributed to the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and phenol in the extract. The adsorption processes of the Jatropha curcas leaves extract onto the mild steel is consistent with the assumptions of Langmuir isotherm model and also found to be spontaneous. From the results, a physical adsorption mechanism is proposed for the adsorption of Jatropha curcas leaves extract onto mild steel surface.

Abstract
In this study, an organic compound inhibitor, namely N-benzyl-N-(4-chlorophenyl)-1H-tetrazole-5-amine (NBTA), was synthesized and the role of this inhibitor for corrosion protection of stainless steel (SS) exposed to 0.5 M H2SO4 was investigated using electrochemical, and quantum analysis. By taking advantage of potentiodynamic polarization, the inhibitory action of NBTA was found to be mainly mixed type with dominant anodic inhibition. The effectiveness of the inhibitor was also indicated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Moreover, to provide further insight into the mechanism of inhibition, quantum chemical calculations of the inhibitor were performed. The adsorption of NBTA onto the SS surface followed the Langmuir adsorption model with the free energy of adsorption ΔG0ads of of -7.88 kJ mol-1. Quantum chemical calculations were employed to give further insight into the mechanism of inhibition action of NBTA.

Abstract
Porous hollow glass microspheres have many uses, including encapsulation of active materials. In this paper a fast and facile method for fabricating porous hollow glass-microspheres was demonstrated by etching them using dilute hydrofluoric acid. Then, a highly reactive amine was infiltrated into the etched glass microspheres. Scanning electron microscopy was conducted for the hollow glass microspheres prior and post etching process. With regards to the porous hollow glass spherical sample, the spherical nature, morphology, pore diameter and the porosity were studied using scanning electron microscopy. Formation of the intact hollow glass microspheres with an open through wall porosities following phase separation and etching of the boron oxide rich phase was demonstrated using reciprocating shaker as the most suitable agitation method. The BET results indicated that the surface of the porous microspheres contained nano-pores. It is believed that the simplicity of the reported fabrication technique of micro/nano porous structure has the potential to scaling up for large scale production

Abstract
The boronizing of a tungsten heavy alloy containing Ni and Fe as the major alloying elements were performed in the present study to increase its surface hardening. Pack cementation method was employed as a well-known, successful solid-state process for boronizing. The coating treatment was accomplished at different temperatures of 1000, 1050 and 1100°C for 6 and 9 hours. The formation of tungsten boride phase was confirmed, although a silicide layer covered the surface of the specimen as the outer layer. The mechanism of the formation of a multilayered surface was explained. The maximum thickness of reaction zone and surface hardness achieved in the current work were 300 µm and 2470 HV, respectively.

Abstract
In this paper the effect of plasma spray parameters, atomizing gas and substrate preheat temperature on microstructure and phase composition of YSZ coatings produced by SPPS process have been investigated. The experimental results showed that increasing the power of plasma, using hydrogen as the precursor atomizing gas and increasing substrate preheat temperature decrease the amount of non-pyrolyzed precursor in the coatings. At low plasma power most of the deposited precursor is in non-pyrolyzed state, and consequently the applied coatings are defective. The increase in substrate temperature beyond 800oC either by preheating or heat transfer from plasma torch to the substrate, prevent the coating formation. In SPPS coating formation, up to a special spray distance the optical microscopy image of the coatings showed a snowy like appearance. XRD analysis showed that in this situation the amount of un-pyrolyzed precursor is low. Beyond this spray distance, spherical particles, are obtained and XRD analysis showed that most of the precursor is in un-pyrolyzed state.

- The mechanism of diffusion layer growth in plasma nitrided coatings applied on a St52 steel using an active screen is investigated. The nitriding was performed at 450,500 and 550 ◦C temperature nitriding times of 5, 10 and 15 h, in a gas mixture containing 20 vol. % H2: 80 vol. % N2 and DC-pulsed plasma nitriding unit.
The surface, cross section and the thickness of diffusion of specimens was studied in terms of optical and scanning electron microscopy. According to the measurements of diffusion layer thickness, values of Q and D0 for nitrogen diffusion in substrate were calculated as 50585 (j/mol) and 4.11×10-10 (m2/s)respectively. The variations of depth of hardness during nitriding period was determined

Abstract
In this research, nanocrystalline Co-Fe coatings were electrodeposited on copper substrate. The influence of current density on different properties of the films at two pH levels was investigated. All the coatings showed nodular structure with rougher morphology at higher current densities. Due to anomalous deposition at higher current density, the amount of iron content increased and reached its maximum value at about 50 wt.% for the coating obtained from pH 5. X-ray diffraction patterns showed hcp structure as the dominant phase. However, by increasing current density at lower pH value, a double phase structure containing fcc+hcp phases was detected. It was observed that current density has a positive effect on grain refinement. However, coarser grains would obtain at lower pH value. Microhardness measurements showed that, there is a direct relationship between grain size and microhardness. Moreover, microstructure in double phase structure films can influence microhardness more dominantly. Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) measurements indicated that the saturation magnetic is proportion to deposited iron content and reached its maximum value at about 1512 emu/cm3. It was cleared that grain size, phase structure and chemical composition can affect coercivity of the films effectively.

Abstract
Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) is the main component for Maritime Security and Defence. Because of that, TNI AL needs Indonesian Warship (KRI) to covered Maritime area. The main requirement from KRI is fulfilled by demand. To pock of fuel demand from KRI at Naval Base, it needs a new pipeline of fuel distribution network system. The pipeline network system used for maximum lifetime must be protected from corrosion. Basically, there are five methods of corrosion control such as change to a more suitable material, modification to the environment, use of protective coating, design modification to the system or component, and the application of cathodic or anodic protection. Cathodic protection for pipeline available in two kinds, namely Sacrifice Anode and Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP). This paper makes analysis from design of Impressed Current Cathodic Protection and total current requirement in the method. This paper showed both experimental from speciment test and theoritical calculation. The result showed that design of Impressed Current Cathodic Protection on fuel distribution pipeline network system requires voltage 33,759 V(DC), protection current 6,6035 A(DC) by theoritical calculation and 6,544 A(DC) from pipeline specimen test, with 0,25 mpy for corrosion rate. Transformer Rectifier design needs requirements 45 V with 10 A for current. This research result can be made as literature and standardization for Indonesian Navy in designing the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection for fuel distribution pipeline network system.

Abstract
In this study the use titanium and tungsten as alternatives to the noble metals in the jewellery industry was investigated. The degradation of titanium and tungsten were compared to that of gold, used as reference. Alternate immersion tests were performed in 3.5% sodium chloride and artificial perspiration. The metals’ abrasion resistance with respect to textile fabrics was determined.
In general, there is around 30% difference in pit density for titanium and tungsten as compared to that of gold. Pit depth and pit diameter showed a similar trend. From the abrasive test performed, it was observed that titanium and tungsten had insignificant changes in the surface reflectivity with time. Hence, it was deduced that titanium and tungsten products would have longer maintenance intervals than that of gold. New tools and techniques, however, would be required by jewellers to work with titanium and tungsten.

Abstract
Influence of formation of surface nano/ultrafine structure using deep rolling on plasma nitriding and tribological properties of the AISI 316L stainless steel was investigated. Initially, the deep rolling process was carried out on the bar-shaped specimens at 15 cycles with 0.2 mm/s longitudinal rate and 22.4 rpm bar rotation. Then, plasma nitriding treatment was applied on the as-received and deep rolled kinds at 450 °C and H2-25% Vol. N2 gas mixture for 5 h. Surface micro-hardness and un-lubricated pin-on-ring sliding wear tests were carried out on the as-received, deep rolled, plasma nitrided and deep rolled-plasma nitrided kinds. Results revealed that deep rolled-plasma nitrided kind is shown the highest wear resistance than the others, due to the further increased surface hardness achieved via the combined process.

Abstract
The inhibition performances of nafcillin (III), methicillin (II) and penicillin G (I) on the corrosion of copper in HCl was studied and tested by weight loss, Tafel polarization, SEM, UV-vis spectrophotometry, molecular dynamics method and quantum chemical calculations. Polarization curves indicated that the studied inhibitors act as mixed-type inhibitors. The values of inhibition efficiency and surface coverage were found to follow the order: Blank
ads, indicated that the adsorption of three inhibitors was a spontaneous process. The SEM micrographs confirmed the protection of copper in a 1 M HCl solution by penicillin G, nafcillin, and methicillin. The shape of the UV/vis spectra of inhibitors in the presence of the immersion of Cu showed a strong support to the possibility of the chemisorbed layer formation on Cu surface by nafcillin (between nafcillin and Copper) and physisorption between penicillin and methicillin with copper. DFT calculations were performed to provide further insight into the inhibition efficiencies which were determined experimentally. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were applied to find the most stable configuration and adsorption energies of penicillin G, nafcillin and methicillin molecules on Cu (110) surface. The interaction energy followed the order: nafcillin (III)> methicillin (II)> penicillin G (I), which confirmed that nafcillin has the strongest interaction with the metal surface. The obtained results from experimental and theoretical methods were in reasonable agreement.

Abstract
Tin-Zinc alloy coatings have many applications because of their unique properties such as corrosion resistance, solderability and flexibility. In this study, the effect of current density, temperature and pH on chemical composition, cathodic current efficiency, morphology and structures of the coatings was investigated. The results illustrated that, at low current densities (<0.5 mA/cm2), the coatings were relatively pure tin, but Zn content increased with enhancing the current density. At higher currents a relatively pure Zn film was obtained. Temperature and pH also affected chemical composition of the alloy films. Zn content of the coatings was decreased by increasing the temperature, while its variation with pH had ascending-descending trend. Morphological investigation of the coatings revealed that increasing Zn content of deposits led to porous, rough and fine grained films.

scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analyses of the coating were conducted for measuring the thickness and analyzing composition of the coating. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) investigations showed that the structure of the coating was amorphous. Ball on disc wear tests were conducted in dry and wet conditions and Ringer’s solution was chosen as the wetting agent. The wear test results showed that the coefficient of friction in dry condition was lower than the wet condition and wear modes were fatigue and corrosive wear in dry and wet conditions respectively. SEM and EDS analyses showed different features and elemental inhomogeneity on the surface of the dry wear track, which were not detectable in wet wear track. In addition, activation of diffusion process and formation of carbides and borides were observed on the wear track in dry condition.

In this work, Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) thin films were deposited on glass substrates at room temperature by vacuum evaporation technique. The deposited CdTe thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-Visible spectroscopy and Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) techniques. Structural studies revealed that the CdTe films deposited at various thicknesses are crystallized in cubic structure. The results showed the improvement of the film crystallinity upon grain size increment. Optical constants such as refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k), real and imaginary parts of dielectric constant, volume energy loss function (VELF), and surface energy loss function (SELF) were calculated using UV-Vis spectra. In addition, band gap and Urbach energies were calculated by Tauc and ASF methods. The band gap energy of the specimens was found to decrease from 1.8 to 1.4eV with increasing the thickness of films. The absorption coefficient, computed and plotted versus the photon energy (hν) and tailing in the optical band gap, was observed which is understood based on Urbach law. Urbach energy variation from 0.125 to 0.620 eV in the samples with higher thicknesses is concluded.

Abstract
In this study, the microstructure, hardness, and dry sliding wear behavior of the hardfaced layers made by a cored wire Fe-B-C-Ti alloy were investigated. St37 steel was used as the substrate and the deposition of the hardfaced layers was conducted by the flux cored arc welding (FCAW) process under single-, two-, and three-pass conditions. Dry sliding wear tests were performed by a pin-on-disk apparatus, based on ASTM-G99, at room temperature (250C) at the normal applied loads of 50, 100, and 150 N with a constant speed of 0.08 m/s for a sliding distance of 1000 m. The microstructural and phase analyses were carried out by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The results showed that the hardfaced layer produced by the single-pass process contains TiC rectangular phase distributed within a matrix containing ferrite and the eutectic of (α-Fe2B). But, the hardfaced layers produced by the two- and three-pass process contain TiB2 hexagonal phase in addition to TiC, which prevents the formation of detrimental FeB phase around Fe2B and reduces the number of micro-cracks. Moreover, the sample hardfaced by the three-pass process had the best wear resistance due to the greater hardness resulted from the higher amounts of TiC and TiB2 phases. In addition, increasing the number of passes has led to the reduction of wear rate at all the three applied loads. At the applied load of 100 N, the wear mechanism for the all three hardfaced samples was an oxidation wear. However, at the applied load of 150 N, the wear mechanism was a combination of oxidation and delamination.

In the research, Titanium dioxide/Graphene Oxide thin films at different concentration of graphene oxide (0.0, 0.015, 0.030, 0.045 and 4.5 g/ml) were prepared by spin coating method. Characterization of the samples was performed using X-ray diffraction and Field Emission Scannig Eelectron Microscope and Atomic Force Microscope. X-ray diffraction results show that by adding the graphene oxide, the peak associated with (001) reflection is observed at the angle of 10.5°. The analysis of Eenergy Dispersive X-ray also confirms the formation of graphene oxide sheets. Considering the excellent photo catalytic and antibacterial properties of titanium dioxide, the effect of adding the different concentration of graphene oxide on these properties has been investigated. The results show that the presence of graphene oxide increases the inhibition of Escherichia coli bacterial growth.

In this paper, the effects of solutioning and various aging heat treatment processes on the microstructure, the hardness and electrochemical properties of a duplex stainless steel (DSS) were studied. The evaluation of the microstructure and phase compositions were carried out by the optical microscopy (OM) and the X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. Electrochemical behaviors of specimens were evaluated by both potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) tests at temperatures of 25 and 60 ºC. The obtained results showed that the solutioning heat treatment increased corrosion rates with respect to the blank specimen. The aging process at 490 ºC for 20 hrs increased the volume percent of the carbide phase to the highest value (25.1%) which resulted in an increase of the hardness value to 170 VHN. The specimen which was aged at 540 ºC for 10 hrs with the Cr7C3 size of 22.8 µm, exhibited the higher corrosion resistance at both temperatures of 25 and 60 ºC with respect to other aged specimens. In addition, the temperature of 60 ºC promoted the anodic reactions in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution which decreased impedance modulus values significantly. Consequently, the carbide size was more effective parameter than the carbide content in predicting electrochemical behaviors of such alloys.

The microstructural characteristics, mechanical properties, and wear characterization of air plasma sprayed coatings obtained from Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced Al2O3-3wt%TiO2 powders were examined at different loading conditions and different percentage proportion of CNTs. The CNTs in the proportion of 2, 4, and 6wt% were used as nanofillers to modify the properties of coatings. The uniform dispersion of CNTs throughout the powder particles can be observed from the SEM micrographs. The porosity of the microstructure of the coatings was measured by image analysis. Also, the mechanical properties such as microhardness and surface roughness were measured by microhardness tester and profilometer, respectively. The wear tribometer was used to analyze the tribology of the coatings by varying different parameters. The different loading conditions used were low load (0.5 kgf), moderate load (1.0 kgf), and elevated load (1.5kgf), respectively. The microhardness showed a slight increase with an increase in the percentage of CNTs proportion. Similarly, the surface roughness value showed a decreasing trend, since the CNTs were filled in the pores. From wear tests, it was observed that the coefficient of friction and wear rate were very less at 6wt% CNTs and 1.5kgf load. This was mainly due to the bridging of CNTs in between the splats. This implies that CNTs were one of the most suitable additives for improving the microstructural and tribological characterization of the ceramic coatings.

In the present investigation effects of time and temperature on plasma nitriding behavior of DIN 1.2344 (AISI H13) steel are studied. Pulsed plasma nitriding process with a gas mixture of N2 = 25% + H2 = 75% and duty cycle of 70% is applied to cylindrical samples of DIN 1.2344 hot work tool steel. X-ray diffraction, surface roughness, microhardness and ball on disc wear test are performed and behavior of plasma nitrided samples are compared. Scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy are used in order to observe the microstructure of samples after nitriding. XRD results showed that the compound layer is dual phase. Hardness near the surface dropped by rising the process temperature and it rose in longer process durations. The comparison of µ results showed frictional properties in longer durations with lower temperatures is approximately the same in higher temperatures with shorter durations.

Abstract
As we all know, corrosion of pipelines by hydrogen sulfide is the most worrying factor in the production and transport of oil and gas. In this work the corrosion behavior of API 5L X70MS and X70MO low carbon steels in hydrogen sulfide environments was investigated. Hydrogen induced cracking and sulfide stress cracking tests were carried out according to NACE TM0177 standard. After testing, blisters and cracks were observed only in X70MO steel, probably due to its lower grain refinement and banded microstructure. Internal cracks seem to be initiated in elongated MnS inclusions. Corrosion process was studied by obtaining potentiodynamic polarization curves, which were registered after open circuit potential measurements, at room temperature. Both steels showed general corrosion in NACE 177A solutions, but the corrosion rate values in H2S-saturated solution were about an order of magnitude higher than those ones in deaerated solution. Hydrogen permeation w::as char::acterized in accordance with ASTM G148 standard. In deaerated H2SO4 solution, permeation measurements were similar for both steels. In H2S-saturated solution, X70 MO exhibited higher hydrogen oxidation current values than X70 MS. H2S seems to promote the reduction of protons and increase the concentration of hydrogen atoms in the solution/steel interface, favoring the diffusion process. As X70MO has a coarse microstructure, it offers more pathways for hydrogen diffusion.
