IUST Chancellor attended 4th Rectors’ Forum, Iranian and Russian Universities

IUST Chancellor attended the 4th Rectors’ Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities
 
The 4th Rectors’ Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities was held in Kish Island hosted by University of Tehran on 24th November, 2018.
In this event rectors and vice rectors from 13 Iranian and 18 Russian top universities discussed their progresses achieved during the last year and the capacities and challenges for the international academic cooperation between the two countries.
Prof. Zakeri, IUST Chancellor in his speeches mentioned this event as an opportunity for identifying the capabilities and a ground for developing the scientific cooperation between the two countries.
IUST Chancellor mentioned the areas of energy, transportation, and gas turbine design as the priorities of cooperation between IUST and Russian universities. He also mentioned the MoU signed between IUST and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University during the 2nd Rectors’ Forum held in Iran in 2016, and the visit paid by their representatives to IUST on March 2017 as well as the visit paid by the IUST representatives to Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University during the 3nd Rectors’ Forum f held in Russia in 2017 that led to drafting an appendix to the MoU in the ground of turbines and power stations that signed in this event.
Asserting the IUST School of Railway Engineering as unique in Iran and Middle East, IUST Chancellor mentioned the discussions made by MIIT for development of cooperation in the area of transportation. He also mentioned two achievements resulted from industrial and scientific cooperation between Iran and Russia and said that by utilizing 2+2 model that was emphasized by IUST in the previous Forum in Russia and includes two universities and two industries cooperation in each country, the cooperation led to decreasing the time and improving the carrying transit from the East Asia to Russia and Europe, as well as finalizing the negotiations made by I.R. Iran Railway and Russian Railway on Electrifying the railway route from Garmsar to Inche Borun with the presence of IUST and MIIT.
At the end of his speeches, Prof. Zakeri proposed peer making, and establishing and reinforcing the connection between the deans of colleges by the counterpart universities.
The Director of Institute of Energy and Transport Systems of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in his speeches recalled his university’s cooperation with IUST and mentioned the mutual visits made by the two universities and the presence of a delegation from IUST headed by its Chancellor in Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University last year, as well as signing of the appendix to the previous MoU between the two universities as the main actions undertook towards the development of the mutual cooperation.
He also proposed launching of the summer and winter schools as a successful method for holding of short courses.
In addition MIIT vice rector for international affairs in his speeches mentioned the importance of cooperation with Iranian universities specially IUST that has a specialized school in railway transportation, and said that they are prepared for development of industrial and scientific cooperation in this area.
Rectors’ Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities is held annually in Iran and Russia alternatively and the 4th Forum was held in the Kish Island hosted by University of Tehran succeeding two forums in Moscow and one in Tehran.
After speeches of the Chancellors of Tehran University and Moscow University, the Russian Ambassador to Iran, the Deputy for Economic Affairs of Kish Free Zone Organization, and he Acting Minister and Head of Center for Scientific and International Academic Cooperation at Ministry of Science, Research and Technology presented speeches in the opening ceremony.
