Ms Azita Belali Oskui will present his P.H.D thesis on " Recreation of Iranian-Islamic City
Abstract
After the
introduction of Islam, many aspects of human social life experienced change
amongst which the dramatic change in architecture and urban construction is
highly notable. By accepting these changes, previously formed residential sites
and dwellings formed an Islamic soul and shape. Understanding this changing is
essential to the process of understanding the architectural and urban concepts
of Iranians and will also help lead to designs best fit for them.
A deep gap
was imposed on the natural progressive process of Iranian architecture and
urban planning in the era after the devastating Mongol attacks on Iran. But
with the acceptance of Iranian-Islamic culture by the Ilkhanid Shah, essential
changes were seen in these fields such as the planning of these three cities
with new approach: The Gazani Abvab-Al-Ber, Rab-e-Rashidi and Soltaniyh.
Nowadays, having access to these unique sites as a whole unity is not possible,
so the researcher must gather all the required needs to create the correct
image by studying and scrutinizing the available valuable resources such as
ancient books, manuscripts and historic documents.
The concepts
of “city” and “An Islamic City” in religious beliefs are broad issues that
require a deep understanding of the supporting resources. Therefore, by
resorting to religious texts and historical documents on one hand, and
thoroughly comprehending the fundamental concepts behind historical cities on
the other, new horizons of meaningful Iranian-Islamic format and design may be
defined.
The aim of
this study is not merely to present a historical discussion on the Abvab-Al-Ber
cities but to create a logical relation between those concepts and future
plans. This study applies a historical interpretation strategy which closely
examines all the available data in historic and religious texts based on
heuristic and context analysis.
In the
present paper, the statement of the Iranian-Islamic concepts, beliefs and
values are taken into consideration and a final visionary plan is introduced.
With regard to this statement and the guidelines taken into use in the construction
and formation of the above mentioned cities, some major strategies have been
developed and introduced in order to realize the main objective of recreating
the Iranian-Islamic city.
